Prices on 8b8t have remained the same since 2021.

We’ve held off on changing anything for as long as possible, but at this point, a price update is necessary to keep things running the way they should.

Why Prices Are Increasing

Over time, the cost of running 8b8t has increased significantly.

This isn’t just general inflation — it’s the actual infrastructure behind the server:

Storage costs have gone up heavily
Server hardware is more expensive than it used to be
Upgrading SSDs (which used to be relatively cheap) is now costing thousands of dollars
The map continues to grow, making storage upgrades unavoidable

In December 2023, we moved to Folia, which improved performance and scalability, but also came with a cost. Running Folia properly requires newer hardware with stronger CPUs and higher core counts, which adds to the overall expense.

On top of that, factors like inflation, tariffs, and the current demand for hardware (especially with AI-related growth) have pushed prices even higher.

We’ve already had to make backend decisions like chunk culling just to free up space and keep storage under control.

This Was a Last Resort

We’ve avoided raising prices for years, even while costs kept increasing.

At this point, adjusting the store is the only way to continue maintaining and improving the server without cutting back on performance or stability.

Changes to Rank Distribution

We are also making a policy change regarding ranks.

In the past, we’ve been lenient with giving out free ranks — whether it was for helping out, contributing to the community, or doing something notable on the server.

Going forward, this will no longer be the case.

We will no longer be providing free ranks, and all ranks will need to be obtained through the store. This also includes the YouTuber rank, which previously allowed users to receive free Ultra ranks through content creation.

While we appreciate everyone who has helped promote and support the server over the years, continuing to hand out free ranks is no longer sustainable.

Voting perks will not be affected and will continue as normal.

Moving Forward

Nothing about the core of 8b8t is changing.

The server will remain fully anarchy. No gameplay restrictions are being added, and nothing about how players interact with the world is being altered.

This change is strictly to keep the server sustainable long-term.
